    Le graffiti historique: Collection Speerstra (Sète/Aubérive-FR)


    If you plan to go South this summer, this is a good moment to plan your route:
    Father and son Willem of the Speerstra Gallery have been collecting graffiti art since the 80ies and have gathered one of the finest collections of american oldschool with works by legends like Blade, Blast, Henry Chalfant, Crash, Daze, Dondi, Futura, Keith Haring, Jonone, Noc, Quik, Rammellzee, Seen, Sharp, Zephyr.
    This summer you can visit the Speerstra Collection in two expositions: one in Aubérive, just above Dijon, and the other one in Sète, between Montpellier and Narbonne in the South of France. And there's another expo in Sète with some of the worlds' best contemporary writers, “L’art modeste sous les bombes”. All info:

    1. The Musée Paul Valéry will show paintings by Crash and Daze, Rammellzee, Jonone and Sharp, and a dozen original Henry Chalfant train photos from 1980-81. Vernissage on the 29 of June, expo from June 30th till September 19th 2007. Musée Paul Valéry, Rue François Desnoyer, 34200 SETE.


    2. “L’art modeste sous les bombes”, Artistes In Situ. At the MIAM in Séte (Musée des arts Modestes). Artists include Alëxone (Paris), Esmaeil Bahrani (Téhéran), Dzus (Kaohsiung), David Ellis (NYC), Maya Hayuk (NYC), Jonone (Paris), Nunca (Sao Paulo), Reach (Taipei), Zonenkinder (Mainz). Vernissage on the 29th of June 2007, expo from June 30th 2007 untill January 13th 2008.


    3.“Le graffiti historique: Collection Speerstra” and “L’Abbaye sous les bombes”, Artistes In Situ. At Abbaye d'Aubérive. This superb private foundation will show another part of Speerstra's collection including paintings from the '80s / '90s, a set of watercolors by Crash and Daze from 1989, and the 40 Henry Chalfant "burners". June 30 till September 30 2007, Vernissage June 30th.
